Argentine Lawyer Apologizes for Racial Remarks in Brazil

Argentine lawyer Agostina Páez, who is detained in Brazil, has publicly apologized for her actions. She stated that she has changed her defense lawyer and that she previously 'did not know' what racism actually implies. According to the Argentine News Agency, the young lawyer is in preventive detention in Rio de Janeiro on charges of racial insult, and she herself considered the incident 'a very serious reaction.' In a video shared on her Instagram social network, Páez said: 'Now I have changed my defense, with Dr. Carla Junqueira, we talked and she explained to me that I should have done it, so now I feel free to offer my apologies.' With a distressed tone, she continued: 'I know that I did not make a small mistake, that it was not something insignificant, but that I was very wrong and my reaction was very serious. In this way, I also understood how to be more conscious and respectful.' 'I am not justifying myself, but rather recognizing my fault, my error, which is why I show remorse and sincerely ask for forgiveness from anyone who may have felt offended,' Agostina concluded.
